What is is the Post Black Experience?

The Post Black Experience is a site designed to continue the conversation spawn by the critically acclaimed book Post Black: How a New Generation is Redefining African American Identity (Lawrence Hill Books) . Written by author and filmmaker Ytasha L. Womack, the book celebrates innovation and change agents in the culture.  Post Black explores the changing dynamics in 21st century black American identity. The term itself is an umbrella phrase to discuss these changes and to evaluate the growing diversity within the culture in a time of increased access to the American system.  With an African American President ushering in the new age mirrored by a host of new technologies we are certainly in a new times. This exciting book provides a prism for these conversations, building on legacies of the past while highlighting rapid change in culture. The Post Black Experience is a platform to capture the transformation.

Ytasha Womack

Ytasha L. Womack is an award winning filmmaker,author and futurist. She is author of the critically acclaimed book Post Black: How a New Generation is Redefining African American Identity (Lawrence Hill Books). She is also author of the popfuturist/sci fi series Rayla 2212 (www.rayla2212.com) which debuted with the ebook 2212: Book of Rayla (YLW Productions).  A Chicago native, she began her career as an entertainment writer for numerous magazines, serving as editor-at-large with Upscale Magazine and later co edited the book Beats, Rhymes and Life: What We Love and Hate About Hip Hop.  Her film credits include directing the film The Engagement and producing the award winning film Love Shorts.  She edits with NV Magazine and contributes to http://ieet.org/.  She is president of the production company YLW Productions, LLC.
